Membership


ADA derives its strength mainly from the dedications and assistances it gets from members and supporters. ADA has so far managed to mobilize more than 1.1 million registered members from urban & rural areas of the country. 70% of members’ financial contribution is retained in the districts wherefrom it is generated for exclusive uses in the areas of social sector development. This fund is largely utilized to construct school classrooms, health posts, libraries etc

It has conducted an international fund raising program, through which more than one Billion birr worth pledge is celebrated in 2010, the leading resource mobilization campaign in the history of Ethiopia. So far, more than 75% of the documented pledges are realized.

Development projects


Since its establishment, ADA has raised about Birr 1.5 Billion to implement socio-economic development projects, mainly social development projects, which directly benefited about a million people in the region. Among the major direct beneficiaries are children, mothers, youths, and adults, male and female in the rural and urban areas (few projects in urban). Indirectly, the majority of the people in all zones and in most of districts of the region have benefited. Here under are successfully accomplished & handed over and on going projects:

  • Community based reproductive health projects have served the needs the people. The program has covered 102 districts in all administrative zones of the region, addressing more than 5.5 million peopledirectly and 10 million indirectly of the Amhara Region
  • Alternative Basic Education and Functional Adult Literacy program held at 214 centers in 18 districts; ongoing at 42 centers in six districts, which benefited 24,297 adults and 20,397 children;
  • Youth friendly anti-HIV/ADIS activities in 10 districts conducted
  • In nine rural districts fight fistula project is benefiting the community at large and rescuing victims of fistula; more than 340 repaired and reintegrated
  • Linking FP/PMTCT/VCT/ART project is conducted in 10 districts and on the way to extend the service in more districts;
  • 85 clinics, health posts & Health centers constructed, furnished/equipped and handed over to the community/health officeswhich are benefitting more than 656,003 peoples;
  • 121 schools of Gread1-4, Gread5-8 and Gread9-10 constructed and furnished and handed over to the community/education offices, 13 under construction which are benefitting more than 71,880 students yearly;
  • Seven public libraries constructed and furnished with 1,907,883 birr cost, which can benefited 700 students per day
  • 65 hand dug wells & springs constructed and handed over to the community
  • 20 dry pit latrines constructed and handed over to the community with a cost of 350,000 birr
  • 250 km rural roads-RR10 and RR30 constructed
  • 3 skill training centers established and managed
  • Establishment of three animal health clinics
  • Basic skills training given to more than 7000 jobless youths in the areas of masonry, carpentry, business management, agriculture, computer writing, blue print reading/quantity survey, etc
  • 359,470 reference books and encyclopedias distributed
  • 1400 bicycles donated for unemployed youths
  • 26 flour mills distributed
  • 450 used computers distributed to TEVT colleges
  • Educational supports given to 12,905 girls & 60 boys
  • Medical equipments donated to 8 hospitals in the region
  • Soil Conservation and Environmental Rehabilitation project including 161.64 km check dam constructed around Angereb Dam catchments
  • Awards given to 572 students with best results in Ethiopian school leaving certificate exams(43,650 birr incurred) and tutorial service for more than 54 high schools(71,120 birr incurred)
  • Community based malaria prevention and control project implemented
  • 9274 quintals of maize distributed to the poverty stricken community
